BROOKINGS, S.D. - The efficiency of making biofuels from corn grain and stover, perennial grasses and other crops, will be one of several topics addressed when the Southeast Research Farm near Beresford, S.D., holds its fall tour.

The event is set for Sept. 3, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

It takes place at Southeast Research Farm, located at 29974 University Road, six miles west from Beresford on state Highway 46, then three miles south on University Road.

South Dakota State University Extension weeds specialist Mike Moechnig and integrated pest management coordinator Darrell Deneke will discuss new products for controlling weeds in corn. They'll also deal with factors influencing the effectiveness of glyphosate in soybeans.

SDSU Extension grain marketing specialist Alan May will deal with crop insurance and risk management concerns with mycotoxins in corn and wheat.

Southeast Research Farm manager Bob Berg and associate professor Tom Chase will discuss monitoring for corn mycotoxins.

Extension entomologist Mike Catangui and Brookings County agronomy educator Jon Kieckhefer will discuss pests of corn. They'll also deal with damage and grain quality issues associated with ear-feeding insects.

SDSU soybean research and Extension entomologist Kelley Tilmon will discuss biological control for soybean aphids. Extension plant pathologist Larry Osborne will address soybean cyst nematodes.

Lunch will be provided courtesy of the Southeast South Dakota Experiment Farm Corp. Approval for Certified Crop Advisor Credits is pending.
