ISU Extension offers fed cattle price workshop
Fluctuating feeder cattle prices and feed costs are affecting the price of fed cattle.
If ever there was a time that feedlot producers need to protect the price of the cattle they sell, it is now. Don't leave cattle prices up to chance.
Producers who would like to learn about how to protect their fed cattle price are invited to attend a workshop, “Protecting the Price of Your Fed Cattle,” Aug. 21 at the Sioux County Extension Office in Orange City, Iowa.
The workshop, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., features six different marketing strategies. These include day of delivery sale, forward contracting, futures, options, Livestock Risk Protection insurance and Livestock Gross Margin insurance.
Participants will learn which strategy is best for their own operation.
The workshop is co-sponsored by the Iowa Beef Center, Iowa Farm Bureau Federation and Iowa State University Extension. Cost of the workshop is $25 per person, which includes the noon meal. Iowa Farm Bureau will sponsor their members.
To register for the workshop, call Cheryl Heronemus, Sioux County Extension education director, or Beth Doran, ISU Extension beef field specialist, at (712) 737-4230 by Aug. 19.
