Tuesday, January 8, 2008 10:03 AM CST

RAPID CITY, S.D. - South Dakota Stockgrowers will host an area meeting at the Victory Steakhouse in Edgemont, S.D., Jan. 16 at 6 p.m.

“Everyone is invited whether a member or not. It's important to be able to come together and discuss the needs of the ranching community and for the Stockgrowers to receive direction from the community especially in light of the upcoming legislative session,” said Tom Landers, Stockgrower District 5 director from Hot Springs, S.D.

Presenters for the evening program will include Stockgrower president Larry Nelson, Buffalo, S.D., who will bring updates regarding Stockgrowers involvement in various issues such as the farm bill, brand law changes, the OTM (Over Thirty Months of age cattle) lawsuit, and other concerns of local ranchers and consumers. Region 3 vice president Marvin Jobgen, Scenic, S.D., and Stockgrower Federal Lands Committee chairman Mark Tubbs will be speaking on prairie dog issues and the fact that the prairie dogs should be considered a pest. Stockgrower vice president Kenny Fox, Belvidere, S.D., who is also R-CALF Animal ID Committee chairman, will be speaking on the proposed National Animal Identification System (NAIS). Southern Hills Cattlewomen president Bernice Landers, Hot Springs, will provide information on Beef Certificates and beef byproducts.

Sponsors for the meeting include Barker Concrete and Construction, Cheyenne River Animal Hospital, Crawford Livestock Auction, First Western Bank, Hi-D-Way Oil and Gas, KBHB Radio, Neville Repair, Ranchers Feed & Supply, Southern Hills Cattlewomen, Stereo 610 KCSR Chadron Radio, Stevens Automotive, and Three Corners Agency.

South Dakota Stockgrowers Association requests your presence for a beef supper compliments of the Stockgrowers and the above mentioned sponsors.
