Champions crowned at 4-H State Rodeo finals
BROOKINGS, S.D. - Dillon Evenson of Humboldt, S.D., and Taryn Sippel of Pierpont, S.D., were named senior boys and girls all-around champions at the 2007 4-H State Rodeo finals held in Fort Pierre, S.D., Aug. 24-26.
In all, 25 new state champions were honored during the event, a culmination of regional rodeos held across South Dakota this summer.
Breezy Bolden of Buffalo Gap, S.D., was named the junior girls all-around champion, while Kourt Starr of Dupree, S.D., and Taygen Schuelke of Newell, S.D., were the boys junior all-around champions.
Courtney Peterson of Sisseton, S.D., was named the 4-H Rodeo Ambassador and Colby Porch of Wanblee, S.D.; Tyler Grussing of Chamberlain, S.D.; Katie Nelson of Philip, S.D.; and Lona Vroman of Buffalo, S.D., were the scholarship winners at the event.
Winners in individual events included:
Senior girls division
Barrel racing, Whitney Olson, Flandreau; breakaway roping, Jacey Jandreau, Kimball; goat tying, Shawn Flottmeyer, Pierre; pole bending, Shelby Thompson, Eagle Butte; ribbon roping, Taylor Shoemaker, Faith.
Junior girls division
Barrel racing, Cassidy Musick, Mitchell; breakaway roping, Breezy Bolden; goat tying, Tarin Hupp, Huron; pole bending, Molli Jo Michalski, Watertown.
Senior boys division
Bareback riding, Travis Hart, Frederick; bull riding, Austin Schaefer, Leola; calf roping, Troy Wiloox, Red Owl; saddle bronc riding, Cole Elshere, Faith; steer wrestling, David Scott, Howes; dally team roping, Rowdy and Dillon Evenson, Humboldt.
Junior boys division
Breakaway roping, Kourt Starr; bull riding, Lane Scott, Presho; flag racing, Newt Bruley, Willow Lake; goat tying, Kourt Starr.
